RETAINING WALL REMOVAL AT 1785 EGLINTON AVENUE EAST
What Work is Taking Place?
The construction of the future surface alignment for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT is well underway between Brentcliffe Road and Kennedy Road.
One of the major activities will be completing the final road works along Eglinton Avenue East. The road work involves excavation, widening the existing roadway, leveling and concrete installations to tie in the new lane, sidewalk and boulevard alignment with private properties. Road work will cross each driveway and access point on both the north and south sides of Eglinton Avenue East.
Beginning April 28, 2020, final roadway, curb and sidewalk works will move in front of 1785 Eglinton Avenue East. A portion of the retaining wall east of the property will be removed to accommodate these works. The section depicted below is located on City right-of-way and is in conflict with the location of the new sidewalk.
Timing
- Removal of the retaining wall and sidewalk construction will begin as early as April 28, 2020 and continue for one (1) week.
- Work may occur from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven (7) days per week, Monday through Sunday.
- The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion. Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

- Crews will be completing roadway, curb and sidewalk construction.
- Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be noise, lighting and vibration around the work area.
Pedestrian and Traffic Impacts
Driveway access will be maintained for the duration of the work.
The pedestrian path at 1785 Eglinton Avenue East will be closed for the duration of the work. Access to the staircase will be maintained via the driveway.
Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes.
