What Work is Taking Place?
As early as Friday October 23, 2020, crews at Oakwood Station will begin to disassemble the overhead gantry crane (depicted above) located at the Main Entrance site. The gantry crane was installed at Oakwood Station in the summer of 2017 to facilitate mining excavation of the station and permanent works beneath Eglinton Avenue West. As construction of the Main Entrance reaches street-level, crews must remove the gantry crane to make way for the building above-ground.
Disassembly and removal of the gantry crane is expected to take place Monday - Saturday between 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. for approximately three (3) weeks. The gantry crane will be disassembled piece-by-piece. Trucks will transport the pieces to an off-site facility. Traffic control personnel will be present to facilitate truck entry and egress from the work zones.
What to Expect
Use of a tower crane will be required to lift and load the gantry crane pieces onto transport trucks. Short-term traffic interruptions can be expected, while trucks enter and exit the work zone. Expect delays while travelling through the intersection. Noise from construction activities, including truck traffic, crane movements and material loading, can be expected.
