Chaplin Cres Closure for Water Main Reinstatement - January 11, 2021

What Work is Taking Place?

As early as January 11, 2021, crews will begin water main reinstatement work in the intersection of Chaplin Crescent and Eglinton Avenue West. To perform the work safely, Chaplin Crescent will be closed between Eglinton Avenue West and the Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway. Eglinton Avenue West will remain open. The closure is expected to be in place through late February 2021. Significant traffic changes will be in effect. Please carefully read the details below.

What to Expect

Chaplin Crescent will be closed between Eglinton Avenue West and the Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway; emergency service vehicles excepted. East-west traffic on Eglinton Avenue West will be maintained, as well as the westbound right turn from Eglinton Avenue West to Chaplin Crescent. The southbound right turn from Chaplin Crescent to Eglinton Avenue West will be maintained and the southbound left turn will be reinstated. The north, south and east crosswalks will remain open. The Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway will remain closed behind the Tertiary Entrance. Local access will be maintained.

TTC bus route 14 Glencairn will be on detour for the duration of the closure - see TTC details below. To accommodate the TTC detour, on-street parking on Russell Hill and Tarlton Roads will be prohibited for the duration of the closure. Noise from construction activity, such as use of a hydro-excavation truck and excavator, can be expected. Site lighting can also be expected.

HOURS OF WORK

• Monday January 11, 2021 through late February 2021
• Water main reinstatement work will take place between 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., Monday to Sunday
• Chaplin Crescent and the Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway will be closed on a 24-hour basis
• The closure duration may be longer or shorter than expected
• Construction may not take place each day of the closure period 

TRAFFIC DETAILS

• Chaplin Crescent will be closed between Eglinton Avenue West and the Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway
• The southbound left turn from Chaplin Crescent to Eglinton Avenue West will be reinstated
• Only emergency service vehicles will be permitted through the road closure
• To accommodate the TTC detour, on-street parking on Russell Hill and Tarlton Roads will be prohibited for the duration of the closure
• Property access will be maintained

PEDESTRIAN DETAILS

• The Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway will remain closed behind the Tertiary Entrance
• The north, south and east crosswalks will be maintained

TRANSIT INFORMATION

• TTC bus route 14 Glencairn will detour for the duration of the closure
• Westbound buses will turn right onto Tarlton Rd, left onto Eglinton Ave W and continue north on Chaplin Cres
• Eastbound buses will turn left onto Eglinton Ave W, right onto Russell Hill Rd and continue south on Chaplin Cres
