LAIRD MINING UPDATE

Mining operations at Laird Station have been underway since mid-2017. Mining occurs on a 24 hour schedule and is advancing east and west of Laird Drive underneath Eglinton Avenue East. Mining operations will continue to late 2019. Based on the location of your property and the type of activity being completed works may become more noticeable over the next two months.

Mining occurs from inside of the excavated entrances and underground beneath Eglinton Avenue. There are three primary underground activities - removing ground water, temporary support of excavation, and excavation and concrete works. Depending on the type of activity and the location of your property, certain construction works may be more noticeable than others. Noise and vibration levels are measured on a continuous basis to ensure all operations are completed within safe and allowable limits.

Prior to starting mining works, Crosslinx Transit Solutions Constructors completed a review of all required works and developed a robust noise reduction plan based on major international projects such as the Boston Big Dig, Crossrail in London, and the Thames Tideway Tunnel, to minimize impacts on the local community.

Noise Reduction Community Commitments:

  • Implementation of noise reduction measures at the construction sites (Noise reduction measures are also effective during the day for an overall added benefit for those closest to the construction sites.)
  • Continually monitor noise  and vibration throughout construction
  • Adjust noise reduction measures at the construction sites as required
  • If necessary, consider additional measures for residences in potentially sensitive zone
  • Ensure proactive communications with the community before and during construction

Working Together 

Metrolinx and its contractor, Crosslinx Transit Solutions, work together with the City of Toronto to monitor any situation of concern or disruptions. We know that during construction of this significance, residents will be inconvenienced. We will continue to work hard to keep residents informed as we deliver this important transit project.
