Guideway Work along Surface Section of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT: Pharmacy Avenue at Eglinton Avenue East

What Work is Taking Place?

As part of construction of the future surface alignment for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, crews will be continuing guideway work in the center of Eglinton Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Pharmacy Avenue. Starting as early as May 1, 2019 for approximately six (6) weeks.

The work includes cutting and removal of existing asphalt, excavation, installation of subgrade materials, duct banks installation and track drainage, track slab and stops. 

Hours of Work

  • Work is expected to start as early as Wednesday May 1, 2019 and last for approximately six (6) weeks 
  • Time: guideway work will be performed between the hours of 7 am and 11pm
  • Note: Unexpected circumstances (weather, equipment failure, etc.) may also change the above interruption plans or prolong the interruption. If this occurs, we will endeavour to provide reasonable notice.

What to Expect

  • Cutting and removal of existing asphalt in the center of Eglinton Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Pharmacy Avenue. The work will be performed within a protected work zone.
  • Eglinton Avenue East remains open in both directions at all times.
  • No through north/south traffic at the intersection during the duration of this work.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • A minimum of two lanes of eastbound and west bound through traffic will be maintained during this work.
  • Left turn restrictions at the intersection during this work.
  • Alternating north-south crosswalk closure during this work. One north-south crosswalk will remain open at all times.
  • Emergency services access will be maintained.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained.

TTC Impacts

  • TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders.
  • Route 67A and 67B buses will be diverted (please see TTC diversion maps).
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops and buses respectively, is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
